Eating Vegan in Tonawanda, NY

The small cities of Tonawanda and North Tonawanda, located halfway between Buffalo and Niagara Falls, have so many great vegan options.

Most trips to Buffalo, for us, include a visit to Tonawanda and North Tonawanda (only 15 minutes north of downtown Buffalo), because the vegan options are plentiful.

Tonawanda and North Tonawanda have become a haven for veganites, boasting five (5) fully vegan options with yet another on the way.

Let’s dive in…

1. The Vegan Grocery Store

In North Tonawanda (and beyond), The Vegan Grocery Store is a haven for all those who don’t want to spend their time in the store looking at ingredient labels – everything is vegan!

We love discovering new vegan products we haven’t seen anywhere else. They have a vast array of products and even in-house made prepared foods.

The Vegan Grocery Store is one of less than 15 all-vegan grocery stores in the country and is a major asset to the local vegan communities in the Western New York region.

2. Little Black Heart Coffee

Just steps away from The Vegan Grocery Store you’ll find Little Black Heart Coffee, an all vegan coffee shop run by the sister of the aforementioned store.

Treat yourself to LOTS of latte flavors, coffee, espresso, hot chocolate, tea, and more. While Oat milk is the default option, there are others including almond, soy, coconut, and even pistachio.

3. The Vegan Center at Project Vegan 716

Five minutes from The Vegan Grocery Store and Little Black Heart Coffee you’ll find Project Vegan 716. Throughout the week they hold a variety of classes on plant-based nutrition, plant-based cooking, and small business development. They also organize social events  and vendor markets, as well as fundraisers for non-profits. We were even a part of the Mac and Cheez Cook-off back in 2023.

Project Vegan also has a 100% vegan commercial kitchen available to rent and is now home to The Furies Vizza (listed below). The Little Shoppe of Vintage and Buffalo’s V-Spot are also located at The Vegan Center!

4. Buffalo's V-Spot

Brand new to the neighborhood is Buffalo’s V-Spot, an all-vegan pizzeria. Besides fantastic pizza you’ll find appetizers, subs, wings, desserts, and more.

Buffalo’s V-Spot is located in the newly renovated storefront at The Vegan Center at Project Vegan 716.

Open for dine-in or take-out, Friday – Monday. Keep an eye on their listing and social media as they expand!

5. The Furies Vizza

The Furies Vizza is a 100% vegan pizza pop-up in Tonawanda featuring gourmet ingredients and nut-free options available upon request.

Currently they are running as an occasional pop-up, with plans to expand in the future. Keep an eye on their facebook page for updates, menus, and pop-up information.

6. Long Weekend Bakery + Cafe

Previously located in Lancaster, Long Weekend has recently relocated to Tonawanda!

While they’re currently only open for occasional pre-orders they will [hopefully soon] be reopening their retail shop.

Enjoy their rotating cast of cupcakes, cookies, tray bakes, and cake slices-always vegan, with daily gluten-free options.

Stay tuned!

Gone but not forgotten...

Guud & Evul Vegan Eats

Guud & Evul recently announced their closure. They had some incredible years in Tonawanda creating all of their own vegan meats with pea protein making them naturally gluten free and soy free, and the food was phenomenal.

From fan favorites like their steak or chicken hoagies, “This Ain’t Chicken Strips” made from portobello mushrooms, loaded fries, and most definitely the dessert “Crack Rolls”, aptly named because you’ll get hooked after just one.

They will be missed!
