If you haven’t noticed… a big focus of ours at MetroPops is on the plant-based and vegan lifestyle. We’re here to encourage, educate, support, and provide resources – and that’s why we’re excited to celebrate World Vegan Day on November 1st and the entire month of November as World Vegan month.
Veganism isn’t your typical diet. In fact, it isn’t a diet at all, it’s a lifestyle! Think of it as the ultimate quest to live with kindness, where animals would give you a high-five if they could, for being their protector.
Here’s the scoop: for vegans, the mission extends from the plate, to our wardrobe, to the products and places we support.
In the food department, it’s a strict “no” to animal meat, eggs, milk, butter, cheese, and even fish. But wait, there’s more! We also avoid sneaky ingredients like whey, gelatin, honey, casein, lactose, shellac, and even some wines and beers processed through isinglass (that’s fish bladders). Talk about thorough label-reading skills.

When it comes to fashion, a vegan avoids wool, suede, cashmere, leather, silk, fur, and feathers. Those cozy down comforters? Surprise—they’re made from the soft, hidden feathers of ducks or geese.
But hey, there is no judgment here. If you’re a new vegan, the least sustainable choice is to throw away everything you own to buy new.
As we celebrate World Vegan Month, let’s remember that every small choice counts. Whether you’re a longtime vegan or simply curious, this month is a chance to explore new foods, rethink old habits, and celebrate the positive impact we can have on animals, the planet, and our own well-being.

Today, this week, or this month you can:
- Try a new vegan recipe like our fav: Easy Vegan Chickpea Curry (other favorites)
- Order a vegan entree when you’re out to breakfast, lunch, or dinner

- Learn more about veganism and its benefits on health & the environment
- Volunteer at an Animal Sanctuary or shelter

- And so many more things!
And Don't Forget Your ROC Vegan Savings Card!
